If you’re unable to come out and help with the clean up, please consider making a donation to help with our efforts. Not only do we have to clean up the mud/debris/water we need to prepare before the next wave of storms hit we also need to replace items damaged. Our neighbors did not sustain the damage, mud and debris that we did. We will be looking into possibly putting up a wall similar to theirs to help protect from future damage. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and tax deductible.

Community heroes
Posted: Jan. 21, 2016
In November of 2014, Canine Adoption and Rescue League’s Boarding & Sanctuary Kennel was part of a toxic chemical explosion. We thought that was enough excitement for at least a decade.
However, Mother Nature had other plans for us. On Jan. 6, Californians everywhere were grateful for rain, but water from land above Highway 126 diverted course and flooded our kennel. In a heroic effort by volunteers and community businesses, dogs were kept safe, dry and warm.
Tail wags and warm wet kisses to: Laura Abbott, kennel supervisor, kennel staff and volunteers who gave their all for canine welfare; Ventura County firefighters who made CARL their No. 1 priority, moving dirt and pumping water; Western Oil Spreading, who donated a Bobcat, skip loader, operators and foreman; HD Tool Supply for the awesome pressure washer; Rain 4 Rent who pumped out our driveway; and Santa Paula Material for donation of 3,000 pounds of sand and reduced rates on an additional 4,000 pounds. It does take a community to accomplish a miracle. Y’all are honored members of CARL’s community. Thank You.

Ventura

One last thanks we must give to the wonderful local business community! Ruben at the local Rain for Rent location was absolutely fantastic. Our parking lot was completely flooded after the storm. The water was literally waist deep at times, but Ruben and Rain for Rent came to our rescue! They donated a pump and their expertise, and cleared the place out in no time!
If you have any flooding in your home, we definitely recommend Rain for Rent. If they could handle our parking lot, they can do anything.

HUGE thanks to the proprietors of The Little Dog House pet grooming! These awesome people also run an amazing rescue called Cold Noses, Warm Hearts. They came out to help during the flood cleanup last weekend, which was great enough. But on top of that, they saw that two of our shyest dogs needed some expert grooming attention! Pooky and King Oso went to their Santa Barbara location a few days ago, and look how handsome they are now!

Some of our many heroes this weekend were the employees of Western Oil Spreading. The company donated the use of a Bobcat and a bulldozer, the expertise of their operators, and a foreman to come out and survey the damage the day before. We really could not have cleaned up our play yard without them, and we’re extremely grateful. The drivers stayed at the kennels all day and went above and beyond, helping to shovel and remove debris by hand as well as with their machines. Thank you!!

*FLOOD CLEANUP CONTINUES TODAY, COME AND HELP*
No adoption events today, as we continue to get our kennels back to 100% working order for the dogs. All are welcome to come help! If you have a wheelbarrow or a shovel, we urgently need both!
Thank you to Mike, Marsha, Linda, Kai, Lydia, Denise, and Dan for coming yesterday to start the cleanup process! We’re hoping for a huge turnout today to finish up by tomorrow! We’ll be going as long as the weather allows, so come on out! 901 Mission Rock Road, Santa Paula

We just received another 4,000 pounds of sand to fill more sandbags! Cleanup is underway, and measures to reduce the damage if it storms again. Thanks to Santa Paula Materials for the significant discount, and for donating our first load!

Today the facility was hit pretty hard by some heavy flooding. Staff and VCFD worked extremely hard to divert the water flow away from the kennels. All of the dogs are safe, dry and warm. The rain has slowed down and the water levels continue to recede. We are not in any danger and all the dogs are safe. We are extremely grateful for all the assistance from VCFD, staff and volunteers.

#MissionIncident Update: Water levels are dropping throughout the area. All roads are now open and passable. There is a possibility that roads may be closed again should additional rainfall lead to flooding.
VCFD hand crew is building a wall with sandbags around the canine rescue facility to protect against further flooding. Initially 15-20 people were sheltered in place in several businesses for a short time as water levels increased in the area.

Second Emergency Kennel Update: A HUGE thank you to the fire department who has made CARL their number one priority. The flooding is coming from the land above the freeway. The drain under the freeway is not collecting the majority of the water since the water rose so quickly and went over the top and ran off the sides towards us. They have offered to evacuate us, but we have chosen to shelter in place. We made this decision because the fire department is taking all preventative measures to keep us safe for the next storm including moving dirt around and pumping out water. If anything changes, we will let everyone know.

#MissionIncident Update. Rain intensity has decreased and the VCFD construction crew was able to temporarily fix the drainage. Water levels are subsiding on Mission Rock Road. Ventura County Fire – Wildland Division firefighters are setting up a pump to drain water from around the canine rescue facility.
Pinkerton Road is closed at Briggs Road. This is the access to the entire Mission Rock Road area.

Emergency Kennel Update! First off, all dogs and staff are okay. There is severe flooding around the facility and currently no access in or out of the area. The fire department is on the scene pumping out water. We will need some aftermath laundry and clean up help once things have settled down. More updates to come so stay tuned. Once again, the dogs and staff are okay.
